Education Support for Workers and Families

The Asociación de Trabajadores de Campo de Berries de Baja California A.C. (Association of Berry Field Workers of Baja California) is a nonprofit organization focused on improving the quality of life for agricultural workers in the San Quintín Valley and surrounding areas of Baja California, Mexico. Despite having steady income and access to basic services, many families in the region struggle financially at the start of the school year due to costs for supplies, uniforms, and shoes. These temporary expenses can lead to absenteeism, lack of motivation, or school dropout. The Fair Trade Committee invested $156,730 USD of Community Development Funds towards improving the educational quality for children, youth, and adults by supporting school retention and graduation. The project ensures access to basic supplies needed to continue education with dignity. The committee distributed vouchers for school supplies, uniforms, shoes, and internet access was supplied close to 1,500 students.
