Early Childhood Nutrition

T he Banapiña S.A.S. Fair Trade Committee addresses local community needs in La Guajira, Colombia related to child malnutrition, limited household resources to maintain a balanced diet, and rising food prices that affect access to essential nutrition for young children. For the workers of this banana and plantain producer, the initiative consisted of delivering dairy food and complementary food to the children of workers that are infant through five years of age, on a quarterly basis, accompanied by awareness-raising activities on the importance of adequate and balanced eating habits. $7,437 USD in Community Development Funds was invested in this nutrition initiative. 110 direct beneficiaries were able to access this quarterly food distribution.
