Emergency Medical Fund

Workers at Chamong Tee Exports in West Bengal, India have voted to utilize their Community Development Funds for an emergency medical fund that is available on an ongoing basis. This project is in response to vulnerability tea estate workers have as they often are unable to accumulate savings to cover unexpected expenses and costs. Medical emergencies and serious illnesses can be financially devastating for tea estate workers and their families. The fund is designed to provide fast, meaningful support for workers and family members facing serious illness, which help cover medical bills, travel for treatment, and lost income during their health recovery. In 2024, the fund provided $11,660 USD in critical assistance to 15 individuals. By offering a safety net when workers and their families need it most, the project relieves a financial stress for workers that can be as devastating as it is unexpected.
