Mosquito nets for illness prevention
Project Description: Workers voted to use their Fair Trade Community Development Funds to buy and distribute mosquito nets for workers and their families.
Reason for the Project: After a bad rainy season brought devastating floods to the Indian state of Assam in June 2022, the community saw mosquito populations increase. This posed a major health risk in this region where malaria, dengue, and other mosquito-borne illnesses are prevalent.
Project Outcome: All workers at the West Jalinga Tea Estate received mosquito nets for their homes, with a total of 925 nets distributed - a potentially life-saving intervention.
