Scholarships for college entrance exams

Project Description: Workers voted to provide Fair Trade Community Development Funds to cover the cost of transportation for high school students to travel to take their exam in 2022.
Reason for the Project: Students in India take a standardized test in their final year of high school, and their exam scores are critical for college admission. The children of several workers at West Jalinga Tea Estate faced a barrier to completing their exam: they needed to travel to a different city to take the test, but public transportation was not an option and families could not afford the cost of private transportation.
Project Outcome: Four students received scholarships of 300 rupees (less than $4) to cover the cost of private transportation to attend their exams in a nearby city - a small investment that could unlock life-changing education and career opportunities.
