Loining knives for tuna fishers

Project Description: Fishers voted to use Fair Trade Community Development Funds to buy high quality loin knives for use on their vessels. The goal was to prevent bacteria growth on the fish and reduce cutting damage from substandard knives.
Reason for the Project: Fair trade tuna fishers in Indonesia cut loins from their catch while on board the fishing vessel. This process requires specialized knives to preserve the quality of the fish, and many fishers were getting suboptimal prices for their catch due to the poor condition of their loining knives.
Project Outcome: 78 fishers received new loining knives, leading to improved fish quality and better prices, boosting household income and quality of life for their families.
