Fair trade fish traceability

Project Description: Fishers voted to invest in improved tagging and systems to enable them to meet fair trade traceability requirements and ensure they received the correct Community Development Funds in return.
Reason for the Project: Fair trade tuna fishers in Maluku, Indonesia lacked resources for consistent and accurate fish tagging - a process that enables sales to be traced back to the correct fishers. Without proper tagging, it was difficult to ensure fishers received the correct amount of Fair Trade Community Development Funds, which are based on quantities of fish sold.
Project Outcome: 275 fishers are now using the new tagging process, making it easier to stay in compliance with the Fair Trade Certified program and maximize the community funds earned.
