Gender Committee

Project Description: The farmers voted to use their Fair Trade Community Development Funds to launch a gender committee to support the success and professional growth of women in the cooperative.
Reason for the Project: Farmers in this Honduran coffee co-op identified a need to address gender bias and invest in the empowerment of women members of the cooperative.
Project Outcome: The gender committee launched in 2021, and offers onsite trainings during work hours and resources for women in the cooperative to develop their farming and business skills, as well as trainings for the cooperative as a whole to educate around issues of gender bias to foster more inclusive and positive collaboration among members. In addition, members review innovative topics and gain skills in diversification areas such as organic fertilizers, nurseries and solar drying.
