Boots and machetes for farmers

Project Description: The cooperative's farmers voted to use their Fair Trade Community Development Funds to annually provide machetes and new pairs of boots for all farmers.
Reason for the Project: Boots and machetes are important tools in small-scale cocoa cultivation- machetes for clearing weeds and boots for safety when working in the field. These items wear out quickly and often need to be replaced yearly, posing a financial burden for these small producers.
Project Outcome: Last year, all 1,800 farmers in the cooperative received new boots and machetes, freeing up their household income for other expenses and enabling them to grow their crops safely and productively.
