Community Parks and Playgrounds

Project Description: Farmworkers voted to use their Fair Trade Community Development Premiums to build parks in their communities, with playgrounds for children and exercise equipment for adults.
Reason for the Project: A survey of workers at this Colombian banana farm showed that a lack of safe, outdoor community spaces for residents to gather, play, and exercise was a top concern.
Project Outcome: Thanks to this project, workers' communities now have three new parks. Children who previously had nowhere to safely play outdoors now have access to playgrounds, and families have safe and welcoming spaces to gather, making this a long-term investment in residents' physical and mental health.
