Celebrating the New Year with Community Support

For many families in Vietnam, the New Year is the most important holiday of the year. It is a time for gathering, preparing special meals, and exchanging gifts. It is also a period when household expenses increase significantly. For workers and low-income families, these added costs can create financial pressure at a time that is meant to be joyful. In 2025, the workers of Santa Clara Company LTD ‘s Premium Management Team used its Community Development Funds to ease that pressure for workers and the surrounding community. By providing financial support to employees across the workforce, the committee allowed them to prepare for the holiday with greater peace of mind. The initiative also addressed safety and vulnerability beyond the holiday celebrations. Household fire extinguishers were donated to employees, supporting safer homes at a time when cooking and electrical use often increase. An emergency fund assisted workers facing serious personal difficulties, helping stabilize families during a sensitive period. In addition, donations were made to local families experiencing hardship so they, too, could share in the New Year celebrations. In total, the initiative in Nam Dinh, Vietnam reached 2,570 people with an investment of $230,000 USD. By responding directly to the financial and practical realities families face during the New Year, Fair Trade Community Development Funds helped make it possible for the holiday to be marked with dignity, security, and a stronger sense of community.
