Supporting Household Food Needs at Eclat Textile

At Eclat Textile Company LTD in Dong Nai, Vietnam, textile workers identified high food costs as a significant pressure on their household budgets. As the Premium Management Team conducted a needs assessment, workers shared that daily expenses, particularly for food, took up a large portion of their income. Survey data highlighted the issue, revealing that 52% of workers spend between 40% and 59% of their wages on food alone. Given that rice is a dietary staple, with 82% of workers reporting they consume it daily, employees proposed using their Fair Trade Funds to provide rice directly to everyone. This solution was designed to ease routine living expenses for the entire workforce. The Premium Management Team presented the proposal, and with strong support from their colleagues, 100% of workers agreed to move forward with the initiative. In 2025, the Premium Management Team allocated $57,330 USD in Community Development Funds to implement the project. The committee managed the purchase and distribution of ST25 rice, a popular variety in Vietnam, ensuring every employee would benefit from the program. Through this worker-led initiative, all 5,050 textile workers each received 10 kilograms of rice. The distribution directly contributed to household food supplies, reducing the financial burden of purchasing a staple food item during that period. For many families, this support helped ease grocery spending and allowed their wages to stretch further to cover other essential needs. The project is a powerful example of how workers at Eclat Textile are using their Fair Trade Community Development Funds to address everyday priorities they identify for themselves, creating solutions that benefit the entire factory community.
