Parenting Education Training

At Dongguan Leroy Far East Knitwears LTD, an apparel factory in Dongguan City, China, workers identified a key priority from a needs assessment survey: parent-child communication. Many migrant workers expressed concerns about staying connected with their children and feeling confident in their parenting while balancing work and family life. In response, workers presented the issue to the General Assembly. Through this democratic process, they discussed solutions and agreed to invest Community Development Funds into a practical parenting education program. With an approved budget of $2,400 USD, the training program reached 627 workers. The sessions provided practical communication methods for parents and children, using relatable examples that participants could apply at home, no matter their children's ages. The fact that all 627 workers chose to participate highlights the widespread support for the initiative. By directing a modest investment toward a shared family need, the workers successfully reached a large group and strengthened skills that support daily family life beyond the workplace.
