Seasonal food support and food safety training for factory workers

At Zhejiang Ayan Biotech Company, a manufacturer of cosmetics and skincare products in Zhejiang, China, workers launched an initiative in 2025 to address seasonal food security and health education. By allocating Fair Trade Community Development Funds to nutritional support and safety training, the project integrated material aid with practical knowledge, benefiting over 700 employees. Through the Fair Trade program’s needs assessment, workers identified access to nutritious food and reliable health information as daily priorities. Employees expressed the need for support to manage fluctuating food costs during certain seasons, and also wanted better education about food safety and handling practices. A total of 466 workers voted on how to allocate the Community Development Funds, resulting in a two-fold approach. The Fair Trade Committee invested $49,100 USD to buy and distribute essential food supplies, timing deliveries across summer, autumn, and winter to help workers manage household expenses. The project also included food safety lectures and educational posters in key public areas of the factory, making sure everyone had access to useful information on safe food handling and nutrition. The project reached more than 700 workers, delivering immediate economic relief and promoting long-term health. Seasonal food distributions helped buffer higher expenses throughout the year, while the training and visual aids improved daily routines both on the production floor and at home. By engaging workers throughout every step, from the initial vote to the final distribution, the initiative strengthened community ties and a sense of shared responsibility. This initiative at Zhejiang Ayan Biotech highlights the effectiveness of a worker-centered approach. By responding directly to employees’ concerns and combining financial support with education, the Premium Management Team met immediate needs and encouraged a culture of health, safety, and stability that extends beyond the workplace.
