Dental Health Campaign

Strawberry workers at Driscoll’s Inc. in Baja California prioritized access to preventive dental care for their communities. In the Valle de San Quintín, access to oral health services is limited, particularly in rural areas and among agricultural workers. Preventive care is not widely practiced, and treatment is often sought only when conditions are already advanced. Costs, limited service availability, and time constraints further restrict access to care. To shift their community from reactive to preventive care, the workforce took decisive action. In 2025, the Fair Trade Committee invested approximately $42,000 USD of Community Development Funds to launch four dental health campaigns. Partnering with specialists and dentistry students from the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California, they brought essential care directly to local primary and secondary schools. These campaigns provided check-ups, preventive treatments, and practical oral hygiene guidance to students, workers, and their families. Across four communities, the initiative successfully delivered 1,259 treatments to 700 direct beneficiaries. By prioritizing early prevention, this worker-led effort reduces the risk of serious dental issues, lowers future medical costs, and builds healthier daily habits that support long-term community well-being.
