Nutriendo Esperanzas Project

Tomato workers at the High Tech farm in Querétaro, Mexico, voted to invest $68,100 USD iof Community Development Funds into the "Nutriendo Esperanzas" project. This initiative provides tailored food assistance to local households. The project developed through the Fair Trade Premium program after a needs assessment highlighted the most urgent concerns of participating workers and their families. The assessment revealed that 40.7% of respondents identified housing as their primary need, followed by food at 31.7% and education at 13.7%. Workers with children specifically noted that groceries and school supplies represented their highest daily expenses. Because the community successfully implemented a major housing project the previous year, workers chose to prioritize food assistance for the current investment cycle. Guided by these findings, the Fair Trade Committee distributed customizable food baskets designed to offer practical flexibility. The committee prepared six different package options. Beneficiaries could select three packages and customize their choices based on their specific dietary needs and household situations. Through this project, 2,826 food packages were distributed to 942 beneficiaries across the working community. This flexible distribution model allowed families to access the exact food products they needed most. By adapting to individual circumstances, the initiative delivered vital relief to hundreds of households navigating high daily living costs.
