Repairing Homes, Supporting Families

Workers at Hidrosel Produce, a cherry and grape tomato farm in Puebla, Mexico, identified housing upgrades and access to essential household items as a major priority for their families in 2025. Many participating households are still managing complex repairs stemming from a devasting 2017 earthquake, which heavily damaged homes and public infrastructure across the region. To address this ongoing challenge, the local Fair Trade Committee approved a targeted home improvement project for permanent employees. Using $16,180 USD of Community Development Funds, the committee supplied vital construction materials for home repairs based on each family's specific needs. The project also distributed major household appliances, including stoves, refrigerators, washing machines, and solar water heaters, alongside essential furniture like beds. To deliver the most effective assistance, committee members conducted personalized home visits to evaluate living conditions and match families with tailored resources. In 2025, this vital project reached 105 workers and their families. The critical upgrades created safer and more functional living spaces. By easing the financial burden of replacing lost items, the initiative gave families practical help with daily activities like cooking, food storage, and laundry, bringing renewed stability to their homes.
