Supporting Safe Learning

Workers at Australis Aquaculture Vietnam in Khanh Hoa recently used their Fair Trade Community Development Funds to drastically improve conditions at Ninh Tho Primary School. Through the local Premium Management Team, workers allocated $3,850 USD to replace heavily damaged roofing and dangerous electrical equipment in a central classroom building. This vital facility currently serves 625 students, teachers, and community members. Vietnam's intense rainy season, driven by a tropical monsoon climate, typically lasts from May to November. It brings frequent heavy rainfall, high humidity, and severe localized flooding. In central regions like Khanh Hoa, prolonged rain heavily impacts roads, schools, and vital community infrastructure. At Ninh Tho Primary School, a classroom block built in 2002 suffered from severe roof deterioration that worsened significantly during the rainy months. Constant water leaks disrupted daily lessons, reduced available space, and forced students to share crowded rooms or attend shortened schedules. In addition, moisture from the failing roof severely damaged the building's electrical system, creating serious safety hazards inside the classrooms. To solve these urgent issues, the project replaced 558 square meters of degraded roofing across seven classrooms and installed brand new electrical equipment. These critical upgrades successfully created a much safer and more reliable learning environment. The new infrastructure supports uninterrupted education throughout the harsh rainy season and meets strict safety and sanitation standards for both students and teachers.
