Vision and Hearing Care

Apple workers at Bostock New Zealand identified hearing and vision care as a top priority for their health. To support this need, they chose to use their Fair Trade Community Development Funds to launch a targeted healthcare project. In 2025, the group allocated approximately $230 USD to provide professional hearing and eyesight screenings for orchard staff, which included migrant and seasonal workers. A total of 11 workers completed these important health checks. This project helped workers access routine medical care that people often delay because of high costs or limited availability. Participants received comprehensive eye exams, prescription checks, hearing assessments, and clear guidance on follow up care. If workers could not attend the scheduled appointments, they could easily arrange independent screenings and claim full reimbursement through the program. These vital screenings supported the early identification of health concerns that directly affect daily well-being. For example, one worker required prescription glasses following their assessment. Overall, the project increased awareness of preventive healthcare among the team. It gave workers practical health support that contributes to safer working conditions and long-term physical well-being.
