Monthly Food Baskets

For workers at this group of Mexican mango farms, food costs place a heavy burden on workers, with over half spending the majority of their income just to feed their families. Many are left with too little to cover other essentials such as housing, transportation, or health care. To address this need, workers voted in 2023 to invest Community Development Funds to provide monthly food baskets to all permanent and seasonal employees. The project continued into 2024 with an additional investment of $55,000 USD of Community Development Funds. The program reached 527 workers, offering meaningful relief from rising food prices. By reducing the share of income spent on groceries, the project gives workers greater financial flexibility—helping them cover other priorities, reduce debt, and improve their overall well-being.
