Cooperativa Agraria Ecoloica Cafetalera (CECAFE) de Lonya Grande has invested over $163,100 USD in Community Development Funds in a comprehensive plan to bolster long term success for the Peruvian coffee industry. They have demonstrated a holistic approach to sustainability, productivity, and market integration. At the heart of the project is the livelihoods of its 728 cooperative members with a focus on on quality, governance, market access, and resilience. The largest pillar of the project was directed toward improving coffee productivity and quality with an investment of $74,000 USD. This portion included field- based technical training, technical assistance, organic certification, and quality control laboratories. Another significant component of the project with $70,000 USD of Community Development Funds is geared towards commercial viability and market access to help remain competitive. This area of work included the renewal of certifications (Fair Trade, Organic, Café Practices), engaging brokers for Fair Trade sales and providing price incentives to farmers. These actions directly link producers to premium markets, ensuring better prices and stable demand for their coffee. For long term success, the project also included $16,000 USD towards strengthening governance and institutional capacity which includes training leaders and youth, conducting financial audits and support for administrative staff. This infrastructure support helps ensures transparency, accountability, and long-term organizational resilience for thriving in global markets. CECAFE has laid the groundwork with these strategic investments for future partnerships and innovation.
