Investments in Coffee Workers

For coffee farmers in the Alto Occidente region of Caldas, Colombia, the availability of skilled labor is a critical challenge. Seasonal labor shortages have led to significant crop losses in recent years, threatening both productivity and profitability. To address this, members of this cooperative invested Community Development Funds to launch The project includes a wide range of initiatives, from worker safety and fair treatment programs to entrepreneurship training to infrastructure improvements like cable systems for transporting coffee. It also provides direct support to workers’ families in the form of services and income-generating projects. By investing in worker well-being and addressing the root causes of labor shortages, this project aims to make agricultural work more attractive and sustainable, supporting the long-term viability of coffee production in the region.
