School Supplies

In the banana-growing region of Antioquia, Colombia, many families face financial barriers that make it tough to send their children to school - specifically, the school supplies that are required to attend school are not affordable to many families. To address this, members of the Corporación El Paraíso Plantación cooperative voted to invest their Community Development Funds in a school supply distribution project. Twenty-five children of co-op farmers received kits containing essential school supplies, removing a top obstacle to school attendance. The impact of this project extends beyond the twenty-five children who received the kits. The project eases the economic burden on families, and by receiving a formal education, these children will have a significantly easier pathway to economic mobility and a better quality of life far into the future.
