Education Scholarship

After workers at the Everest Fashion factory in Nepal identified school fees as a major barrier to being able to send their children to school, they voted to fund a scholarship program for the children of workers. This project ultimately covered approximately US$95 in school fees for one child per eligible worker, focusing on families who had not benefited from other Fair Trade projects at the factory. The impact was far-reaching: first, it helped ensure children could continue their education. Second, by reducing this major expense, families can redirect those savings towards other important household needs like food and health care. The use of the Community Development Funds to invest in this project and use reflects the shared belief among workers -parents and non-parents- alike that investing in the next generation lifts up everyone.
