High School Equivalency Program

For many floral workers at Florecal in Ecuador, the lack of a high school education has been a barrier to personal and professional growth. Without a diploma, many struggle to access better jobs, earn higher wages, and support their children’s education in turn. To address this, workers voted in 2021 to launch an adult high school equivalency program Community Development Funds, and the project continues today. So far, this ongoing project has provided 112 workers with the tools and support needed to complete their secondary education, including computer-based learning and personalized instruction. By reducing the number of employees without a high school diploma—currently about 30% of the workforce—the program aims to improve financial stability and career opportunities, and spark a cycle of education and opportunity among workers and their children.
