Coconut Planting and Replanting Project

Franklin Baker Company of the Philippines' Fair Trade Committee implemented a two year project starting in 2022 with a goal to sustain the coconut production in the area and to produce more quality coconuts seedlings. This was in response to the Needs Assessment that determined 87% of the Premium Participants were in favor of a tree planting initiative. The Committee invested $32,470 USD in Community Development Funds toward a c oconut replanting project. The project provided free coconut seedlings to Premium Participants with vacant areas of their certified farms or those ready to r eplace aging and non-bearing coconut trees. In turn, this would provide them additional income in the future and will help in sustainable coconut supply. The vision of this project highlights the long term investment and strategy that is needed for this region to thrive and to continue their coconut farming through the next generation.
