Building a New School

Kayon Mountain Coffee Farm is a specialty coffee producer located in the Guji Zone of the Oromia region in southern Ethiopia. The farm is committed to eco-friendly and socially responsible practices and have a history of providing free transportation, higher wages for their famers, and financial support for local schools and clinics, building infrastructure such as roads and bridges for surrounding communities. They also supporting education by supplying school materials to children of coffee producers. In 2024, Kayon Mountain Coffee Farm's Fair Trade Committee recognized the absence of a school in the village of Sewana. During the General Assembly, there was a vote to construct a new school for the community. $59,300 USD of Community Development Funds were invested to build a school that 136 students could attend. Schools are seen as a core and critical for the continuity of culture. The village of Sewana school' s mission is to create an educated citizen and nurture and grow knowledge, attitudes, values, and techniques that have cultural relevancy.
