Kore Village Electrification Project

In the coffee-growing village of Kore, nestled in the hills of south Ethiopia, a lack of electricity has long been a hardship. Without power, students struggled to study after dark, women traveled miles to mill grain, and clean water infrastructure could not be built, as it requires electricity. The Kore Village Electrification Project has transformed life in the village. After Fair Trade Certified coffee farmers voted to invest over $12,000 USD in Community Development Funds in the project, the initiative supplied all 600 households with electricity for the first time. Reliable electricity now powers homes, providing a massive quality-of-life boost to families and paving the way for future clean water projects.
