Essential Household Appliances

After a needs assessment revealed that many workers are unable to afford essential household appliances, the workforce at this factory in Uttar Pradesh, India, voted to launch a project to provide workers with their choice of either a refrigerator or a washing machine. Workers and factory management expect this project to directly support food security and hygiene, while providing a significant reduction in domestic labor for workers' families. Eligibility was based on salary, and included both permanent and contract workers. By equipping homes with these essentials, the project uses Community Development Funds to tangibly improve workers' everyday lives, reducing domestic burdens and raising the standard of living for families.
