Honey Production Improvements

In Minas Gerais, Brazil, the Melbras Importadora e Exportadora Agroindústria LTDa Fair Trade Committee implemented a series of impactful and related projects to build in improvements to local beekeeping operations and honey production. Honey Extraction Room Construction The construction of dedicated honey extraction rooms is a cornerstone project. By providing beekeepers with modern, well-equipped facilities, more efficient honey extraction processes can be supported. This new construction supports both established beekeepers and new honey farmers, promoting growth in the apiculture sector. As former extraction sites were repurposed, beekeepers did not have access to to a facility to complete the production process. This investment in infrastructure is vital for maintaining high-quality honey production and supporting the livelihoods of local beekeepers. Sewage Treatment Plant Installation Environmental sustainability is a key focus, with the installation of sewage treatment plants for honey extraction facilities. These plants ensure that waste generated during honey extraction is properly treated, preventing pollution and protecting the local ecosystem. This project is crucial for maintaining a clean and sustainable production environment, which is essential for the long-term health of the industry. Hydraulic Connection for Honey House Access to clean water is fundamental for maintaining hygiene and good manufacturing practices in honey production. The hydraulic connection project provide reliable water sources from artesian wells to honey extraction facilities. This ensures that beekeepers can maintain cleanliness and adhere to best practices, resulting in high-quality honey and a safe working environment. Inclusion of Workers Recognizing the importance of fair compensation and support for workers, the inclusion project allocates a portion of the Community Development Fund to Melbras employees. By providing food cards and other welfare benefits, these projects ensure that workers' basic needs are met, contributing to their overall well-being and productivity.
