Emergency Fund for Colleagues

At the Pimientos Selectos greenhouse facility in Culiacán, Mexico, one of the most meaningful uses of Community Development Funds has been the creation of an emergency fund that has been established to help when life delivers an unexpected and significant expense for an employee.

In the past, the fund has covered urgent needs such as dental surgery for a worker who has had an accident. In 2024, workers voted to use the fund to help cover surgery for a colleague who was diagnosed with cancer. This 2024 investment of $10, 200 USD of Community Development Funds stand out not just for the impact for the affected employee, but the spirit behind the assistance: workers choosing to support a colleague, knowing they may never benefit from the emergency fund themselves.
