Affordable Fruit Transport

For banana farmers in Ucayali, Peru, transporting fresh fruit from the field to processing plants can be a costly and unpredictable part of their business. Without their own vehicles, many rely on rented transport, which limits control over delivery times and exposes them to higher costs and logistical challenges. To address this, the producers of Procesadora Tropical invested Community Development Funds to provide motorized cargo tricycles to four pioneering farmers. With a budget of US$13,700, the project aims to reduce transportation costs, improve supply chain control, and ensure that bananas reach processing facilities in peak condition. By eliminating rental fees and reducing dependence on third-party transport, these farmers can save money, invest in farm improvements, and take a more active role in managing their harvests. The project not only boosts productivity but also gives farmers greater control over quality and timing—essential for staying competitive in the global banana market.
