Improving Coffee Production and Quality

Cooperativa Agraria Unión y Fe La Coipa focuses on sustainable agriculture quality improvement and supports smallholder farmers in the Cajamarca Region of Peru by improving access to markets, technical assistance, and fair pricing. The coffee cooperative's planning and use of the Fair Trade Premium spanned a wide range of support for all 234 members that includes capacity building, productivity and quality enhancement, certification renewals and audit resources, and market readiness and commercialization. Overall, in 2024, USD $49,640 was spent to carry out these various projects. Training on technical issues encompassed topics such as organic and inorganic waste management, record keeping, post-harvest techniques, fertilization, and soil conservation. The cooperative supported the producers productivity through a a fertilizer distribution program to to improve yield and coffee quality for export. To complete the broad vision of producer support, a commercialization component of the initiative focused on logistics, processing, and transportation costs for coffee sales.
