Birthday Bonus Program - 'Red-Pocket Birthday'

60% of the factory workers at the Meng Yee factory in Cambodia voted (1022 votes) to invest their Community Development Funds in a straightforward but meaningful project: each worker receives a $20 cash gift on their birthday. A significant sum in Cambodia, this is effectively an annual bonus program that workers have used for everything from birthday celebrations to paying off debt to providing financial support to for aging parents.
Heng Sreyneat (featured in the photo here), who works in quality control at Meng Yee, said, "It’s my favorite project. It’s a simple way to ensure that I have money to celebrate my birthday each year.”
This act of a birthday gift is aimed to promote worker well-being and support their livelihoods and be an opportunity to nurture morale and sense of connection for the employee.
